… BECAUSE GRAND HOTELS ARE FOUNTAINS OF YOUTH

If the past is valued more by the host than the present, and – above all – more than the future, then he really should close his hotel.

Grand Hotels have always been young. Perhaps you are now frowning because you think of all the pompous palaces from the Gründerzeit that we know from films or city trips, or also from your own experience.

Yet, in truth, Grand Hotels have always been fountains of youth – and they still are today. Precisely the first Grand Hotels stood for youth, modernity, progress and new frontiers. Things were invented there that did not yet exist elsewhere. People met there who left their mark on their era. Entire social circles developed there that would influence the future. Even in difficult times, life in a hotel was – how it should really be – not difficult but free of difficulties. Despite and especially during the Great Wars, a colorful society of optimists danced their feet off in the ballrooms.

Some of these great houses have lost their youth. They became administrators of an established image, and ceased to question themselves. They oriented themselves no longer toward the future but to the past. We find this infinitely regrettable.

We have already been in many of these hotels, you, too, probably. Some have become so momentous over time that the guests have to carry the burden as well. Every curtain seems to hang heavily, every word has to be weighed. As if at any moment a serious visitor is expected – but definitely not us.
